BARBARESCO (KING-LAMONE 2001)

We are exclusively introducing this one for Marc King of Casa Rocca Collections in Italy. We were finally able to convine him of its garden merit here in the UK after trialling it for him for a couple of years.
Marc writes: "A seedling from an older crispate Lambert cultivar (PETER AERNE X Self), this rich burgundy crispata shows its Lambert heritage in the veining aparent in the throat, reminescent of OPEN HEARTH, a distant cousin. Fertile both ways, this seedling produces an abundance of this exotically shaped flowers on relatively short scapes, held just above the foliage tips. The effect is superb.
The name applied for this beautifully quilled and pinched Crispata is "BARBARESCO" - a rich red wine of our countryside. Very distinctive in shortish habitus.
EM, DOR, NOCT, 45 - 50cm, 15cm, top-branched, blooming a few inches above the foliage tips. Good increase once established."
